That is a lot of awesome.
I can't imagine how you all find time to practice enough to pull that off.

Takes a lot of practice time. These guys work extremely hard to do what they do and they enjoy it. We only have 8 more practices till the next show to get better. That's excluding days off for flying back to Nellis then to Niagara. Takes a lot of dedication and that is what we are trying to get from other teams on FSX!
Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
I send my apologies for not being able to view the show live. From what I hear you guys must have done an absolutely outstanding job. Keep up the work boys!

Robert, if your in the F-16 or any military aircraft, and doing formation like the USAF Thunderbirds, or the Blue Angels, you have to keep the roll rate slow, because there is five jets off of you.

Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Not so Walker.
The Skyblazers used to roll really fast. Two of their pilots told me that Bill Creech used to roll so fast it felt like an aileron roll. You can roll it fast, but you just have to keep pull in it. Of course, in FSX you have to limit your pull so that you don't end up pulling too many Gs on the backside of the roll. However, in LOMAC, I'm sure Robert can scoop those jets out of the roll at near to 4 Gs.
As for Sunday's performance.... Jesse can address that himself. It definitely looked slower than he's rolled in other shows, but I suspect that's because he wanted to fly conservatively for two new-heads in the squadron.
Good eyes on spotting the slow roll rate Robert. You pay great attention to detail and I'm sure the Golden Eagles will be an outstanding organization with you at the controls.

Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Their DRoll looked a tad slow to me, I coun't about 50 seconds from smoke on to smoke off. That said, the roll from the wingmen wasn't too bad!
Real TBirds complete the maneuver in about 24 seconds.

Hey, we staid in right? Now this is just Burst's opinion, But I would rather slow down a maneuver a bit other than losing my wingmen... Wouldn't yourself? Well you should get where I'm getting here, you do call yourself Lead Pilot LOMAC "Fierce" Remember now, we fly on a Flight Simulator, not real life...

Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
With all this being said remember this...our show is still an hour and 4 minutes from start to finish which is the real tbirds time
Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
So I guess this wouldn't be a good time to bring up how Burst ratcheted the roll-outs in the delta?
You guys shouldn't take this as a criticism, We all thought you guys did a great job in the show. However, we also noticed that the diamond roll was much much slower than it had been in the past, and we were wondering if it was because you had two new-heads on the squadron that you were flying more conservatively than usual.

Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Yes actually. I applaud our 2 new pilots so much because honestly they only had about 8 practices max before this show which is a huge accomplishment. I am in no means bragging on these two or anything, they are just great pilots and just like the real guys, you will see us get better as the season goes on
Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
And now, It wasent an Insult, When I was watching the Diamond Roll, It was killing me on the roll rate, Its not an insult, or even critiszm, Its just A statement.
Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Being one of the new pilots, I can't agree more with Wildcat. Burst's rolls are a lot different than I have ever flown before, and with +/- 6 practices to get used to them, it was really a challenge.
Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Velo,
How are Jesse's rolls different than others you've flown?
I'm really interested by the way people fly a diamond roll. I had a terrible time of leading them in my aircraft (Section F8 F-86) until I turned the realism settings down from 100% to about 50%. However, before I did that I experimented with several different ways to execute a roll.
The two main categories of rolls that I see are those that add pull and roll together once the roll begins (pulling the stick back and to the left), and rolls that only move the stick left while holding the initial pull.

Re: FSX Thunderbirds El Centro Live Performance
Whether the roll was slow or fast. It reflects the authority and leadership that the Flight Lead has taken. He/She leads the team on how fast/slow it should be. What's one to speculate on that?
I think he's doing a marvellous job, look at it with a bit of optimism. Better than what you guys could do from what I have an understanding of.
Good work Burst.
